With spring break upon us and summer approaching, it’s traditionally a popular time in motorhome sales. However with credit still tight, RV sales are, and will be, tough. Proponents of the TALF (Term Asset-Backed Loan Facility) which rolls out this month, say this could be what opens credit markets and attracts more dollars to the industry.
“We are entering a popular season for RV sales,” says Clint Ethington of Pedata RV Center. “Our prices are at record lows. We are getting interested buyers left and right. However credit is still an issue.”

Industry to Benefit from Proposed Stimulus Package: Pedata Urges Consumers to Look Into Possibilities

Possible federal economic credit and stimulus packages will stimulate RV lending and treat new RV buyers to friendly tax benefits. (The bill would offer a deduction for sales/excise taxes on the first $ 49,500 of new RV purchases).
Basically, the package would stimulate sales; a necessary factor in the RV industry’s economic recovery.
The bill would also include RV consumer loans as well as RV dealer floor plan loans in the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TALF). Clint Ethington of Pedata RV Center claims, “As dealers, we’re really trying to get involved; this proposed stimulus would benefit us directly as well as indirectly since increased credit available means we’re less restricted in our company growth, every RV purchased benefits the company, and business is always better in a healthy industry.”

Pedata RV Supports RVers Rights June 10th, 2009

In an effort to make Congress aware of the RV industry and their efforts at ‘greening’ vacations, RVIA is headed to Congress June 10th, 2009. The automobile industry is attempting to justify their steps towards consumer ‘green’ trends while the RV industry has already addressed those concerns. RVIA will be presenting evidence on the carbon footprint of RV travel versus traditional airplane travel and hotel stays to show RV travel has less of an impact on the environment.
Other potential topics of discussion, according to the RVIA website, are:
Secure a sales/excise tax deduction for RV trailers
Lower the required AAA rating for Term Asset Backed Loan Facility (TALF) floorplan loans
Add RV dealer floorplan loans to the Small Business Administration (SBA) 7 (a) loan program and alter the SBA size criteria for RV dealers so that more dealers can qualify as small businesses
Request that Congress continue to encourage Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) recipients to lend to small businesses and consumers
